The Federal government suspended student loan payments and froze interest due to the pandemic. The freeze began in March 2020 and has been extended several times but will finally end on January 31st, 2022.
You likely fell into one of four buckets during this federal loan freeze period:
- You stopped paying on your student loans and used your extra cash to survive and live on
- You stopped paying on your student loans using this time to stash cash and build your emergency fund
- You stopped paying on your student loans and lived it up or
- You kept on paying your students loans
